Essa é a história de um homem que amou muito Jesus. Era assim que Gregório Mcnutt gostava de se definir. Gregório foi um missionário americano, nascido em 25 de abril de 1952, na cidade de El Paso, no estado do Texas, nos Estados Unidos. Desde cedo, ele recebeu o chamado de Deus para servir à nação do Brasil, onde atuou por mais de 30 anos. Ele era casado com Mônica, com quem teve dois filhos: Katharina e Fletcher. Contudo, Gregório também tinha outras duas filhas, Magdalena e Gracia, fruto de seu primeiro casamento. Após ficar viúvo de Cecília, sua primeira esposa, ele reconstruiu sua família ao lado de Mônica.
Infelizmente, Gregório faleceu em 26 de janeiro de 2017, aos 64 anos, na cidade de Londrina, localizada no norte do estado do Paraná, no Brasil, em decorrência de uma parada cardíaca.
Profestas vivem nos lugares altos
Ele costumava dizer que os profetas não foram feitos para permanecer no pé da montanha, mas sim para alcançar os lugares altos. Dessa forma, Gregório vivia constantemente em comunhão com os céus, sempre buscando a honra e a glória de Deus. Sem dúvida, ele foi um homem profundamente preocupado com o coração de Deus.
Sua Conversão
Na década de 1970, durante sua juventude, Gregório teve contato com o movimento hippie americano, um período em que acabou se envolvendo com o uso de muitas drogas. No entanto, sua vida começou a mudar radicalmente quando ele teve um encontro com Jesus na ilha do Havaí. Tudo começou quando se sentiu atraído a entrar em uma livraria chamada “João 3:16”. Ele não fazia ideia de que aquele lugar era uma livraria, muito menos evangélica. O nome, contudo, chamou sua atenção, e, por isso, decidiu entrar.
Ao entrar na loja, Gregório encontrou o dono da livraria, que também era pastor. O homem possuía longos cabelos que batiam na cintura, um estilo completamente diferente do padrão dos pastores de terno e gravata a que Gregório estava acostumado a ver. Surpreso, aceitou o convite do pastor para participar de um culto com vários jovens que, assim como ele, haviam se convertido do movimento hippie.
Quando chegou ao local, Gregório se deparou com muitos jovens buscando a Deus ao som de uma banda de rock, algo que lhe chamou profundamente a atenção. Ele sempre dizia que, naquele lugar, Jesus o tocou de maneira profunda, transformando sua vida para sempre. Foi ali que ele reconheceu que era pecador e que precisava de um Salvador para resgatar sua alma perdida.
A vida pessoal de Gregório
Após o falecimento de sua primeira esposa, Cecília, com quem teve duas filhas, Magdalena e Gracia, ele conheceu Mônica, uma mulher descendente de família coreana e residente em São Paulo. Com Mônica, Gregório teve mais dois filhos, Katharina e Fletcher.
Gregório após ter uma linda família com Cecília e suas filhas Gracia e Magdalena, teve chance de amar novamente e aumentar sua família com Monica, após sua partida. Outro milagre aconteceu passados três anos do nascimento de Katharina, a notícia da chegada de Fletcher Finney. Gregório que foi pai de três meninas e avô de cinco netas, agora teria também mais um herdeiro.
Fletcher Finney trouxe muita alegria nos últimos anos de sua vida, quando ele partiu Fletcher tinha 2 anos de idade. Foi difícil escolher o nome dele… imaginem quantas opções ele tinha de avivalistas para ele e Mônica decidirem. Enfim foi inspirado em John William Fletcher (1729-1785), que significa “fazedor de flechas”, um homem humilde e fervoroso no Senhor; Charles Grandison Finney (1792-1875), significa “aquele que voa”, outro avivalista quente, que contribuiu para “The Second Great Awakening”.
Chamado para o Brasil
Gregório recebeu o chamado de Deus para servir à nação do Brasil por mais de 30 anos. Na década de 1990, Gregório chegou ao país e assumiu o cargo de diretor de evangelismo da Jocum (Jovens Com Uma Missão) em Belo Horizonte. Posteriormente, em fevereiro de 1996, ele foi convidado para participar da Conferência de Evangelismo em Atlanta, nos Estados Unidos. O convite foi feito porque desejavam que ele fosse uma voz profética no evangelismo durante as Olimpíadas daquele ano.
Durante essa conferência, um momento poderoso aconteceu enquanto Cindy Jacobs orava. Gregório foi tocado pelo poder de Deus, que o derrubou ao chão. Logo depois, ele foi chamado para subir ao púlpito e pegar simbolicamente a “tocha do evangelho”. Esse gesto marcante representava a entrega da mensagem de Cristo aos mais de 5 mil jovens presentes, vindos de mais de 100 países, no International Ballroom, em Atlanta.
Além disso, ainda na conferência, Cindy pediu que Gregório descesse e orasse por um jovem. Ao descer, ele se deparou com um grupo de adolescentes em pé diante dele. Quando levantou as mãos para orar, o jovem caiu ao chão, e, surpreendentemente, muitos outros adolescentes ao redor também começaram a cair e a chorar. Tomado pelo Espírito Santo, Gregório correu pelo lugar, pulando e celebrando o que Deus estava realizando naquele momento.
O início do ministério “Fogo, Paixão e Lágrimas”.
Após esses acontecimentos em 1996, Deus falou com Gregório sobre o seu chamado e ministério, que teria três pilares: Paixão (Fl 1:21), Fogo (Jr 20:9) e Lágrimas (Lm 3:48-50). Deus disse para ele:
“Você vai erguer a sua voz com plenos pulmões. Você vai anunciar que o Seu Deus está aqui. Você vai ser um trombeta para anunciar o evangelho e vai carregar uma tocha. Você vai gastar o resto da sua vida correndo com esta tocha. Vou te levar para incendiar corações, lugares e vilarejos. Eu quero que você pregue avivamento”.
Assim como João Batista foi uma voz para sua geração, carregando uma tocha, Deus levantou Gregório para cumprir um papel semelhante no Brasil. Ele foi chamado para ser uma voz profética, destinada a abalar as estruturas religiosas e pregar sobre o avivamento, não apenas em território brasileiro, mas também em diversas partes do mundo.
Ao longo de sua jornada, Gregório viveu em várias cidades brasileiras. Contudo, decidiu fixar residência em Londrina, no Paraná, onde permaneceu até o dia de sua morte. Ele costumava dizer que escolheu Londrina em homenagem aos seus heróis da fé, como George Whitefield, John Wesley, Charles Wesley e Charles Spurgeon, todos ligados a Londres, na Inglaterra. Para Gregório, Londrina era como a “pequena Londres” do Brasil, um lugar especial para ele.
Foi nessa cidade que Gregório se dedicou intensamente ao ministério. Ele passou seus dias em oração, preparando pregações, escrevendo livros e compondo músicas, sempre com o objetivo de deixar um legado duradouro para as futuras gerações. Londrina tornou-se o ambiente onde ele consolidou sua missão e influenciou inúmeras vidas.
Sem dúvida, Deus concedeu a Gregório uma voz poderosa, uma tocha simbólica e um chamado para incendiar corações. Ele nasceu para proclamar, nunca para se calar. De fato, Gregório não era tímido; pelo contrário, enfrentava qualquer público ou quantidade de pessoas com destemor. Por meio de sua coragem e dedicação, ele liberou avivamento sobre aqueles que foram impactados por seu ministério.
A importância de Leonard Ravenhill em sua vida
Como referência espiritual, Gregório tinha Leonard Ravenhill, um renomado pregador, que, segundo seu testemunho, orou por sua vida por aproximadamente três horas durante um encontro marcante.
Depois que Leonard Ravenhill orou por ele, mantiveram contato através de cartas. Em uma dessas cartas, Leonard falou assim para Gregório:
“Gregório, quando você for pregar, você precisar ir com fogo em sua boca”.
Interessante porque o versículo favorito de Gregório era Jeremias 20:9, que diz:
“Mas, se eu digo: “Não o mencionarei nem mais falarei em seu nome”, é como se um fogo ardesse no meu coração, retido nos meus ossos. Estou exausto tentando contê‑lo; não posso mais!” Jeremias 20:9 NVI
O profeta Jeremias quando não falava da palavra de Deus nada acontecia, mas quando falava era levado algemado nas mãos e pés e levado para a prisão. Contudo, Jeremias não podia conter o amor que tinha em pregar o evangelho. Então, isso veio como fogo ardente ao coração do profeta.
Ravenhill ainda disse mais:
“Gregório você precisa ter uma marca, um lema. Você precisa ser uma pessoa consumida de fogo de Deus. Você tem que entrar numa casa fria, e casa vai pegar fogo porque você foi lá. Quando você liberar uma oração no lugar, vai se tornar mais aquecido. O seu ministério precisa conter fogo. Quando você for para os campos brancos, você vai com paixão; com um coração quebrantado e transbordando de santa paixão. Capacidade de sentir, de ter os sentimentos aquecidos que não pode ser contido”.
Gregório viu a paixão por Cristo no texto de Filipenses 1:21
“Porque para mim o viver é Cristo, e o morrer é lucro.” Filipenses 1:21 NVI
Ele entendeu que é preciso andar e falar com paixão por Jesus. Paixão contém compaixão pelos perdidos. É um sentimento que precisamos ter pelas pessoas. Gregório chorava ao dizer a paixão que ele sentia pelo Brasil e o povo brasileiro. Que ao sair do Brasil para alguma viagem, ele chorava de saudades do país de tanto que amava. Isso se deve ao fato que Deus deu ao Gregório um sentimento de paixão pelo Brasil. Com todos os problemas que o Brasil enfrentava e ainda enfrenta, com seu nível de corrupção lá em cima, Gregório amava demais o país.
E Leonard Ravenhill termina dizendo:
“Gregório, quando você for, você vai com lágrimas”.
Deus falou ao Gregório que essas três palavras, Paixão, Fogo e Lágrimas, são três marcas do mover Deus que está trazendo para o Brasil.
Gregório passou por vários moveres de Deus, inclusive quando teve o mover de Deus em Toronto, Canadá. Esse mover começou na Igreja do Aeroporto Vineyard. Caracterizou-se por manifestações espirituais intensas, como o riso. Contudo, Gregório recebeu a palavra de “lágrimas”, e por muitas vezes foi perseguido por causa das suas lágrimas. Ele dizia que alguns pastores falaram assim: “Hoje é dia de rir, de dar gargalhadas, e você está chorando”. Chorar era mais profundo do que rir para Gregório. Sempre quando oravam antes de evangelizar, Gregório junto com outros irmãos, choravam diante da presença de Deus e pelas vidas que iriam alcançar.
O legado
Gregório McNutt foi um homem a quem Deus deu uma voz para pregar o evangelho com ousadia e uma tocha para transmitir o fogo do Espírito Santo onde quer que fosse.
Junto com sua esposa, Mônica, liderou um ministério que avivou gerações de brasileiros. Mesmo após sua morte, seu legado permanece vivo.
